Facebook under fire

An Italian Facebook group has come under the scrutiny of Justice Minister (Minstro della Giustizia) Angelino Alfano. In a public announcement he declared that the social network’s group ‘Uccidiamo Berlusconi’ (‘Let’s Kill Berlusconi’) is causing a criminal offence by instigating murder. The minister called upon magistrates and forces of law to investigate the matter and bring the creators and members of the group to justice. To date the group has some 12,000 members.
Italian Magistrates and judges are often under criticism from Berlusconi and his government as being biased towards the left-wing.
Facebook has been popular in Italy since around the summer of 2008 – in August of that year 1,300,000 visits to the site were recorded, an annual increase of 961%. In September 2009 Facebook registered around 18 million users in Italy. (source: wikipedia)
