Further to the Haiti earthquake disaster Italian authorities are sending out an aircraft carrier Cavour with 922 crew and humanitarian aid to the Caribbean island. The vessel left La Spezia last night. The government has also announced it will erase its 40.43 million euro debts with the country to which Italy is the second largest creditor.
Prime Minister Berlusconi has also sent out his chief of disaster operations Guido Bertolaso (pictured right) stating that the emergency operations in Haiti are lacking coordination.
Five Italian citizens are still missing after the earthquake struck last week, while the Pentagon has stated that there is little hope now of finding any more living under the rubble.
