Freezing temperatures and advsere weather conditions continue to affect most of Italy. Fresh snow storms hit most of the north of the country over the weekend while torrential rain in the South.
Temperatures in the Emilia Romagna region remain well below zero with as low as -10°C registered in Bologna and surrounding areas. Schools were closed in Modena and low-lying Ferrara where risks of snow and black ice remained high. The Sunday football fixture between Parma and Inter Milan was postponed due to snow.
Local authorities seem to be better prepared than they were in the December freezes however with motorways and main roads mostly free of ice and snow. Only the Falconara airport in Ancona was closed due to ice on the runway. The cold weather is expected to last until mid-week.
