Vulcanic ashcloud reaches Italian airspace

Thousands of passengers were left stranded as from Saturday as the volcanic clod of ash from in Eyjafjallajökull Norway reached Italian airspace forcing the closure of major airports in the north of the country and even further down to Rome today, Sunday. Airports in Milan, Venice, Verona, Bologna and Pisa were all affected.

The civil aviation authority ENAC has imposed the closure at least until Monday 19th April at 8:00 am local time. The same authority has also authorised a reconnaissance flight by ENAV to control the situation in the airspace of the area. Results are not yet known.
