First female winner for X Factor

The fourth edition of X-Factor reached its final stage last night with 30 year old chanteuse Nathalie coming first.  It is the first time a female artist has won the popular TV talent show in Italy.

Italo-Belgian Nathalie Giannitrapani (pic. right), pipped 17 year old favourite Davide to the post in a close finish, with eccentric rocker Nevruz coming third. Bizarrely Davide was unable to appear in the final 40 or so minutes of the show since in Italy minors are not allowed to appear on TV after midnight. His place on stage was taken symbolically by his father, although fortunately the youngster had already sung his final acapella just minutes before the Cinderalla deadline!
Winner Nathalie, from Rome, now has a recording contract with media giant Sony, worth 300,000 euros and possibly a place representing Italy at the next Eurovision Song Contest.

Although she had made a slow and uncertain start to the 13 week long show Nathalie finally seemed to have won over the public’s favour with her powerful and moving self-penned song  In punta di piedi, prèmiered just last week. She also featured in a moving duet with British singer Skin last night performing Follow Me Down with the Skunk Anansie group.

Reunited ‘boy-band’ Take That also starred on last night’s show with Robbie Williams showing particular appreciation for runner-up Davide.

As a songwriter Nathalie cites her main influences as Tori Amos, P J Harvey, Radiohead and Jeff Buckley as well as Italian singer-songwriters Fabrizio De André and Francesco De Gregori.
